Menards is clearancing out 5/4"x12"x4ft Edge glued boards. Gives a somewhat butcher block like look. Could be an interesting baffle option. Should be slightly more stable against large scale cupping or warping.
I picked up some of the Arylic AMTs. But I didn't realize there were two different models being sold on the same page with the same photo for both.
So I ended up with the AMT-7s which looks identical to the Dayton mini-8 except for a nicer looking faceplate. Oah well. I've been knocking around the idea of doing a PC speaker build since my computer will be moving rooms shortly. This tweet would probably do best with little cones anyway.

Yeah I bought the little fellers, too. Hope they measure for real like they publish. They will be a solid tweeter for a small 2-way or a 3-way. I imagine this, the HiVi 2" neo motor midrange, and any number of 7-8" woofers would make for a pretty nice speaker.
Good price on those big Heils but I still haven't actually heard them in a project yet. How do they sound? Can they cross low? Do they need a bunch of notches and contouring?

I have several pairs (still never used) - the older ones require some massaging (dual 5k and 13k peaks), IIRC, the newer pair just needs a little gentle contouring. IMHO $100 apiece for the new ones is pretty good. Very robust and detailed.
But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!
I bought a pair a little over a year ago. At that time the sale was a pair and mounting kit for $250. The Heils are dipole speakers. I have seen some cases where users put absorbtion on the back and used them as monopoles, but that seems to defeat the uniqueness of these drivers. A lot of people put them naked on top of a bass bin and I've also seen an open "cage" built around them (think of the Nola Brios). The OB diehards have even stacked two of them and added 7 inch "wings" on each side to lower/optimize directivity control. God bless DIY.
They can cross low. I see 800 Hz to 1500 Hz recommended a lot. Here are some preliminary tests I did when they arrived. Distortion rises below 1 KHz, but it's almost entirely 2nd order so I can see where 800 Hz may be doable, depending on how loud you need them.
Adam brought these to MWAF few years back. Not sure what xover point they're at. They sound great. AMTs seem to always measure weird, but sound fine in use to me.
They are also listing both 10” AND 12” cast frame drivers for $150 a pair. I could not find any specs on their web site. But the pics look pretty sexy, one or the other maybe a good match for the big AMT.
Make a coaxial tweeter out of them by removing the face-plate and installing over a midrange, JR?
I am thinking about mounting/overlapping a PT2C-8 Planer at the junction of a 12" PA310-8 woofer and a 8" or 10" midrange to get the tweeter on-axis/coincident . . .

2.5" hdd for scale. Pretty tiny. Probably not worth what I spent, oh well. I'll still use them.
Yep. AMT-7 looks like the same motor as the Dayton mini-8 that cost $35 too. But these Arylics have a much nicer looking faceplate IMO. So that's something I guess.
The Arylic AMT-9 looks like the Dayton AMT2 but with exposed screws on the faceplate. If so then $54 for those is probably a better deal and less niche than the little AMT-7.
Oah well. Hopefully the AMT-7 will be nice nearfield with some BMRs or something. Though the HiVi B2S is getting some side-eye since they are 8ohm. I've got this 8sw-4he already in an enclosure with plate amp that would slide right under my desk too.

I buy a pair of the waveguide loaded SB tweeters for a project I've had kicking around for awhile.
Trying to resist pulling the trigger on a pair of those 10" SB woofers.....
Yeah me too!

Was gonna pick a couple of these up but they aren't stocked anywhere close to me. Bummer.
The Arylic 7's FR graph looks a lot better than the Dayton mini-AMT does . . .

He did the RAAL foam pieces to change the dispersion.
Wow! Super cool looking project.

Does it look more like the Hygaeia (Airborne 4001, better!) or Tianle (Dayton AMT2-4)?
