  • Bought new 18" stands, Monolith by Monoprice, the cherry ones. Nice looking and pretty sturdy. Moved one sub farther right and the other sub farther left. I wanted a more open look than using the subs as stands. I may yet move the right sub to somewhere closer to the couch, and see how it blends.

My Son is turning 13 in a month and we need to buy him an electric razor for Christmas. And his voice dropped two octaves over the summer =)

Same. Just returned from New Zealand last night. Started to wonder why I'm still an Iowan.

  • I went back to work as I couldn’t stand not being busy. Plus we’re in the mix of buying a cabin in the black hills from a distance family member so having extra money will help to fix a maintain it.

  • The "Goon Show" was a very popular BBC radio series in the 1950s, with Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe. This an exchange between two of its most loved characters:

Bluebottle: "Are all your family brainy, Eccles?'
Eccles "Well, my father was really clever'
Bluebottle: 'What did he do, Eccles?'
Eccles; 'Nothing, he was really clever'.

Mario Andretti, what a legend: won just about everything on four wheels: Indy, NASCAR, F1 World Champion, F5000, Can-Am, you name it!

I think he has the wisdom and patience to deal with what the late Murray Walker called "The Piranha Club" of F1 politics and BS. If he can deal with that, the racing is probably the easy part...

Eagle and Penske won F1 races in their day, but it was rather different then; the late Dan Gurney's 1967 Eagle-Weslake V12 was possibly the most beautiful F1 car ever. I wouldn't call the current crop of cars anything but yuk.

Good luck to Mr Andretti and his team.

  • Fun times at the ranch tonight. Had to extract a BBQed ground squirrel from the dryer inlet. 2nd time in the last 5 years. On the bright side, it did give me a chance to clean out all the gunk in the duct work and deep inside the lint trap.

  • I had our water heater shut down and throw an exhaust flow error. Mud dobbers had built a nest inside the vent pipe. 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • Ran an errand yesterday and the 2014 Prius V ran fine. Half hour later I pushed the start button and all the dash board lights were blinking on and off randomly and it wouldn't start. Googled the issue and top of the list was the battery. I swapped out the 10 year old original battery for a $294 replacement and it's all good. The battery was behind the rear wheel well and had a built in handle to pull it out with.

Agreed, especially Toyotas: the Prius and its Lexus variant have many times been cited as the most reliable car in survey after survey and the new Camrys get amazing fuel consumption without hindering performance.

The Prius' driving experience has consistently improved over the years; I thought the first models were pretty stodgy in the handling department but they just keep getting better.

Ron, if you got ten years out of a modern battery that's amazing!

  • I did the math after the posts above. My Hybrid Highlander saves me about $1,000 a year in gas compared to the 100% gas engine, assuming 12k miles a year and $4 a gallon gas. The hybrid costs about $6k more new. I hope to have it for 10 to 15 years.

We bought the Prius new in 2014 and it just turned over 90,000 miles and we haven't spent a dime on repairs outside of replacing things for normal wear like tires and now a battery. I'm also amazed that the original battery lasted this long. It's the wagon version of the Prius and because it's bigger and heavier than the standard Prius it gets around 40mpg. I've seen it get over 50mpg on wind assisted trips.

  • Value, Ron!

I remember driving one of our car fleet's second generation Priuses (sp?) from Melbourne to Bendigo, Victoria (about 100 miles) and being amazed at the economy, which I worked out as around 46 mpg. Admittedly that was mostly freeway driving but it was rather better than the 18-20 mpg of the six cylinder fleet.

One of our good YouTube car review channels, www.redriven.com, has a great resident mechanic who says he hates Toyota Camrys and Priuses because nothing much goes wrong; if everyone drove them, he'd be out of business!

I use to love flying out to Colorado to ski (in my 20's). Right now my back, knees, and career just say "NO!"

  • How many inches of snow have you gotten?

  • It's been many years since I've been skiing. Are helmets mandatory these days?
