That guy is a trip. At this point, I am thinking he is just a moderately sophisticated troll.
What I don't understand is that a lot of what he says actually has merit. But the XT25 hangup, and the rounding of rear edges being beneficial are asinine. He's on DIYaudio too now, and if he slips up and says something stupid- some of those guys will tear him apart.
I just think he's a very full of himself knowitall. I suppose that could make him a persistent troll.
On a side note, I sat with Dirk and his g/f at a recent DIY event dinner outing. Cool cat... That tvr character, on the other, hand is just an internet troll or a d-bag who thinks he knows it all. He seriously reminds me of moron99 and several others from the past. I don't post at PETT anymore due to people like him.
Yeah that 830870 looks really nice for $22. Heck, add a pair of $8 DX20BF00 tweeters and you could easily build a pair of C-Note killers (not Ron's C-notes).
Boy oh boy, do I ever NOT need more drivers, but thinking about a desktop full range little speaker.
Decent low end in a ported box, and a simple contour filter should smooth out the breakup node.
As usual, a sucker for a big discount.

At that price, might be worth a look. Pulling off a great little fullrange is not trivial. For example, the little SB mid used in the Selah Integrity design was about the only thing wrong with it at all (from the Audio Science review).
Keep an open mind, but don't let your brain fall out.
Re: the above, Rick clearly should have just used the TC9 or TG9...
That Audioscience test results were brutal, and he was more nice than he should have been. The only real problem with that 3 way was the midrange. Rare mistep by Rick Craig.
But Chahly - Stahkist don't want speakers that look good, Stahkist wants speakers that sound good!
I call the TG9 (or TC9) the poor mans Scan 10F. If you're referring to the Integrity build, TG9 would be very comfortable in that application. Looking at the midrange "problem" shown in the ASR review, it looks a lot like early cabinet reflection to me, but could be a driver cone-edge issue as well, though the manufacturer data doesn't show any issue there.

Oh but tvr says it's a distorted mess, so it is.
Yes- it's a great tweeter!!! David's "Sherlocks" sounded wonderful with it.

I know the distortion comment was not your words, Wolfie.
I used the DX25 with dual RS180s in an MTM.
Distortion was pretty outstanding.
WOW! That's -50dB! Nicely done!

So tvr isn't Dirk on here?
Not that I'm aware of, no.
InDIYana Event Website
Hmm, writing style was similar. I assumed they were one and same.
TVR is retired. Dirk is ~43.
InDIYana Event Website
... never assume.
I'm not assuming. I know Dirk, have met him, and we're about the same age.
TVR has said he is retired.

"... never assume" was in reference to me assuming they were the same. Looks like I owe an apology to Dirk.
Kornbread,
Don't fret, Wolf is easily triggered

I'm sorry I opened this can of worms, so let's let PETT worry about PETT and the behavior of certain people over there.
Agreed
Fair enough.
To reiterate, DX25BG60 is a good tweeter.
And on from there...

I originally nicknamed it "beastmode tweeter" for a reason...
Anyone else going to order a pair of the Beastmode tweeters?
I have a pair already; destined for a small 2-way with the Wavecor 4.5" glass-fiber midbass.
InDIYana Event Website
I have a pair, but bought earlier from PE at a bit higher price...
Good flash sale today, 4" poly HDS for $22, $100 for the 8 ohm RS 10" sub, that weird HiVi 8", some of the DMA line, Epique 5" for $170.
The HDS should be high on peoples lists for affordable high end performance.

Sorry, I missed something here. What is wrong with the SB mid? Going through the review now if I find it...
Anybody got a link to the review? I getting off tracked in my search. Is it the review of the driver or the whole speaker?
