  • Sounds good guys, I'm going to try to work it in. May only have a small set of bookshelves available to bring (or ship if that's an option) to the event.  Thanks for the invite!

JR, is this a "one day" or "weekend" event?  Who can I talk to for more information or is there a website link?

No problems man.  I was just pointing out that I walked away a winner this year and didn't complete the build on my own.  I know one of the ones you are referring to without mentioning names.  Just didn't want you thinking that's h…
  • I figured weather might be part of the reason, makes sense.  Gotta find something to do while stuck inside.  How often do you guys host the MAC event and when is the next one? And where?
  • I'm one of those PWRRYD is referring to. I didn't completely design the Gandalfs, only the cabinets and even then was told what arc angle would be best. Yea, they took first place and I suspect it had more to do with my cabinet design then it did th…
  • Probably no business jumping into this thread but opinions are what they are, here's mine.  I've only been at this hobby for a few years.  In that short amount of time, I've even noticed what looks like a drop off in interest.  JR fears the hobby is…
  • I'm assuming the 13" or 8" number is your depth and the 18" number is the height.  If so, you should be fine.  For some added insurance, you could double up the 3/4" panels to make sure the middles are getting good pressure.

What are the dimensions of the box you are building?
  • (Quote)
Ani, Cold pressing is simply pressing or clamping the veneer to the substrate until the glue dries.  It requires an additional panel the size of or a little larger then the veneer you are applying.  3/4" thick or thicker depen…
  • Unbacked veneer is not that difficult to work with Ani.  If you're not dealing with any radius's, I would suggest cold pressing the veneer, not the heat lock.  The cold press method is pretty straight forward and simple.  You can do two sides at a t…

They are proprietary.  Both of our DMS machines use Fagor controllers.  Not sure why they haven't made the switch to PC based.  Probably just creatures of habit, been building their machines with these controllers for 30-40 years n…
  • I'm still trying to get over the fact that you can get a wireless one for $100-150 bucks!  That's crazy!  We had to replace the dial in one of our older wired ones a couple of years ago and the dial alone cost more then one of these.

Oohhhh a wireless one, I like that a lot!  That's the one thing I hate about the one at work is fighting the damn cord.  You set the pendant down on the table and it'll try to pull it off, such a PITA.
  • (Quote)
(Image) It's called a teach pendant because you can literally build a program with it.  Say you have a really crazy part with lots of funky curves in it and you want to make a profile cut of it that matches.  You would place the pa…

Is there a way to adjust the incremental step downs on the keyboard when looking for your reference?  .001/.01/.1  Just curious about some of the features.
  • Do these machines come with a teach pendant or is it an option?  Is this the reason for the wireless keyboard recommendation Roman?
  • Wow Mike, you've got to be pumped about this.  I'd be calling in sick (with the flu) to get this thing put together.  "Sorry Boss, it's really bad, I may have to check myself into the hospital".  At least you have a three day weekend comin…

Any idea when more of these would be available Roman?  I have an active build planned for right after MWAF using the ES180's and would love to pair them up with these.
  • Nice work Bill! I have to ask, why Particle board vs MDF?? There is so much more work involved in prepping for paint when using the Particle board. Not to mention, it flakes so easy leading to more clean up work. Just curious.
  • Nice work!  They're gonna look fantastic after the finish is applied!  The Padauk should really pop on the black cabinets.

That speaker probably had a troublesome buzz that could get annoying as you cranked it up.:)
  • (Quote)
I wish!  Imagine where we would all be in this hobby if we started at that age.:)   I hope his interest continues to grow.  We will be starting on his MWAF project soon, that should be a lot of fun walking him through everything an…

Thank you Sir!  Sometimes I get a little carried away with the details but these worked out great.

The Sapele on these was paperbacked so that made things easier right off the bat.  It didn't give me any trouble at all conforming to the shape of the cabinets.  Sapele is a member of the Mahogany family so it has very similar trait…

Thanks. The baffles are Karelian Birch, rest of the enclosure is Sapele.

Under-stuffed I can probably live with, over-stuffed, not so much. Sorry for the nightmares.:)
  • Thanks guys.  Learned a little something from this thread and will try to use it any chance I can.  I'm assuming since none of you commented on the pics, these don't look overstuffed to you.  I'll try the DAT's sweep and see what the peak reads.  No…

Oops!  Yea, I figured the date thing out afterwards, thanks.

Wish I could help with the answer on that Mike.  In most cases, we get what we pay for.  If you go too cheap, odds are you will find yourself being frustrated with the way the machine performs or how often it breaks.  Resale values…
