Big speakers are made for big SPL. Otherwise, why bother with big? That said, not every track needs to be at high SPL.
Have a track or three intended just for the big guys. A nice orchestral track with a big crescendo, some thumping electronica,…
My first use of PRs involved a pair of 15" from Acoustic Elegance. A slab of MDF mounted to a very loose suspension with plenty of linear throw and a very low natural resonant frequency made for a PR with almost ideal parameters. Big Vas, hig…
not bad looking, and really nice distortion performance. The guide though is killing the top octave by being too deep for the diameter. Why don't they just make the dang thing a little bigger and put a more gradual curve on it?
Model it up. The diffraction effects become less bothersome for a tweeter the wider the baffle gets, especially as you move up in the crossover frequency.
I use egg crate foam to cover up the mineral wool or fiberglass that really does the absorbing function. The egg crate foam just keep the fibers under control.
DATS is great. Been using the piece I got when testing the beta way back. Works the same time every time as long as you get it set up in Windows correctly.
This inspires me to take what I've already done and add that little volume control.
The little HDMI audio decoder I have is surprisingly good on its own. I'm controlling my little Dell Inspiron 3050 Micro desktop streamer using Foobar2000 and foo_…
That 8BG51 is a great woofer. Two of them in parallel might be OK for the Vifa NE149 4 Ohm. Even a pair of the SB might be more than the 8 Ohm Vifa could keep up with.

Been DIY'ing speakers since the late 1970s and doing some really high end stuff for Vapor Audio the last 4 years. My Avatar is of my infant grandson who is now 5. He loves m…
There are tons of well recorded tracks that allow for testing, but also for pure enjoyment.
Some of my favorites to do both . . .
Infected Mushroom - Avratz
Ray LaMontagne - You Can Bring Me Flowers
Elton John - Madman Across the Water
Melody Gardo…
That Vifa NE will make an excellent midrange between the T-labs and 10" SB. Those NE drivers are very well designed and built and exhibit all the characteristics you want in a midrange . . . smooth response and very low distortion.
I will be there with the Marksman v2 that were in Iowa.
My daughter wants to tag along too. She's gone to a couple of RMAF events with me. I think she likes hanging out with speaker nerds.

I was looking at the DSA270 tonight and it looks pretty darn nice.
Peerless 830668 looks reasonable too.
As far as the guide not producing that honking sound, its pretty much a matter of keeping the response nice and smooth across…

The pairing of the SEOS8 and RS28A will allow you to cross your tweeter to quite a large woofer, almost anything that has smooth response to 1KHz. Even something like the RS270 or RSS265HF-4 would work and give you a two-way with t…
